Former Balochistan Finance Secretary caught in massive financial embezzlement scandal

Ex-finance secretary of Balochistan, Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani has admitted to carrying out massive financial embezzlement during his tenure as the secretary. He was arrested two days earlier on corruption charges by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for his involvement in the financial embezzlement case.

According to sources, over Rs. 650 million in cash and gold jewelry weighing several kilograms, were recovered from Raisani’s resident during a raid. The money and gold jewelry has been confiscated and now his bank accounts have also been sealed.

Raisani was suspended from his duties by a judicial magistrate and handed over to NAB officials on 14 days physical remand. Just two days into the interrogation, Raisani admitted to the corruption charges against him and he has even agreed to help the authorities find other who are involved in similar activities.

It was revealed by NAB that Raisani had been involved in embezzling government funds during his stint as finance secretary from 2013 till 2015. He used to stash all the looted money in his house and the recovered amount reconfirmed this allegation. During investigations, Raisani even admitted that the money recovered from his residence was stolen from the national reserves.

Raisani is not the only person who is involved in financial corruption in Balochistan. There are others like him and a series of raids are being carried out to trace and nab the accused. Further arrests are likely to occur in the coming days as NAB closes the noose around the wrong-doers.
