The premier’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz who has been updating the country on the improvement of her father, PM Nawaz Sharif following his open heart surgery has added some truth to the rumors that she will be her father’s political successor.

On a show, ‘G for Gharida’, while speaking to Gharida Farooqi, Maryam claimed that she is eager to contest 2018 elections if her party PML-N found her competent.

In answering a question posed to her on whether she would be contesting the 2018 elections, she said, “What I think does not count. What party elders, senior members and the head of the party think matters more. If they would like me to contest elections, then I’m always available. However, if they think it would be better that I stay in the background and assist them wherever I can, then that is also acceptable to me.”

She voiced her belief and confidence in her father’s government, believing that it will complete its five years and will have a hand in forming the next government.

She rejected rumors that there were divisions in the family, saying that “Mine and Hamza’s relationship is just like Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif’s.”

She further added that Chaudhry Nisar’s political journey had commenced with Nawaz Sharif.

Refuting threats of an imminent martial law in the country, Maryam Nawaz responded that “Disruptive elements are present everywhere but the government will complete its tenure.”

Maryam Nawaz who has been on the forefront in the nation’s prayers for her father reported that she had spoken to her father the previous night via telephone who assured her that he was quickly recovering. It marked the first time that they had both talked since his surgery.
