Hindu Man Allegedly Tortured By Policeman In Ghotki

An elderly Hindu man was allegedly tortured by a police constable in Ghotki for selling food before Iftar. The constable ended up being arrested by police after a social media campaign demanded justice for the old man.

The cop going by the name of Ali Hassan was posted in Ghotki district’s Hayat Pitafi town. He was seized on charges of torturing and injuring Gokal Das, a man in his eighties.

According to SSP Ghotki Masood Bangash, a First Information Report (FIR) had been registered in Jarwar police station against the policeman for assaulting a senior citizen under Sections 337, 504 and 506 (2) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant is the grandson of the victim, Gokal Das.

The terrible incident which attained a lot of attention occurred on Friday, based on an officer’s statement.

Pictures of tortured Das went viral on social media revealing his torture marks. As a result, Inspector General Sindh A.D. Khawaja acknowledged the incident and ordered for immediate action.

The IG’s quick response was appraised by several rights activists who also called for an exemplary punishment for the accused cop.
