At least 31 people have been feared dead and dozens of others have been injured in mass flash floods which have caused massive destruction in Chitral. The heavy rains caused the flooding in Chitral’s Asoon area, displacing the local residents there.

According to the details provided by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) around seven dead bodies have been found while rescue operations are underway to find the remaining 24 people, who were swept away by the floods.

The floods caused massive damage to a mosque while several houses were completely swept away by the strong waves. According to an initial survey, 37 houses have been completely destroyed while 48 others have been partially damaged. People from these houses have been shifted to safe locations and efforts are being made to furnish them with all the necessities.

The PDMA has requested the National Disaster Management Authority for a helicopter which can be used for rescue operations. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army is also actively involved in helping the people of Chitral. A statement released by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that four injured people have been shifted to the DHQ hospital in Chitral through a helicopter from Arsoon.

Meanwhile relief supplies have been provided to the affected people through these helicopters. These supplies include tents, blankets and food.

It is feared that the number of deaths will increase as the rescue operations continue to find and help the displaced. Women and children are also included in the list of casualties of these floods.
