Fever And Infection Prevents PM’s Return To Islamabad

A PM House spokesman confirmed on Monday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s return to Islamabad has been delayed as a result of fever and infection.

Sharif, who is presently in Lahore “was due to travel to Islamabad tomorrow (Tuesday) morning but due to an infection in one of his leg incisions, he is suffering from fever,” the spokesperson stated.

The spokesperson further went on to say that the prime minister’s infection is currently been treated by doctors and that he will be in Islamabad as soon as his fever subsides.

The Prime Minister arrived in Pakistan last week Tuesday following his open-heart surgery at London hospital on May 31st.

The urgency of the surgery was brought about following the prime minister undergoing a cardiac procedure known as Atrial Fibrillation Ablation in 2011, “during which certain complications occurred resulting in perforation of heart”, Maryam Nawaz earlier recounted to the media.

The decision to leave the country was described as a politically unwise one as it came at a time when opposition parties were pressurizing the government due to the Panama leaks. Nevertheless, according to a PML-N officer-bearer, the visit was crucial due to Nawaz’s medical condition.

Jahangir Khan Tareen, secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), claimed that the party’s plans for executing a “massive protest movement” over the Panama leaks following Eid-ul-Fitr were in full motion.

On April 3rd, an investigation by an international coalition consisting of more than 100 media centers based on 11.5 million records and 2.6 terabytes of information derived from the internal database of Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca highlighted how politicians, celebrities and various other famous people make use of banks, law firms and offshore shell companies to bury their assets.

The documents on the ICIJ website revealed that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s children Maryam, Hasan and Hussain “were owners or had the right to authorise transactions for several companies”.

The data leak showed the financial wheelings and dealings of over 200 Pakistanis, including the late Benazir Bhutto, Rehman Malik and other notable politicians and businessmen.
