On Friday, the Supreme Court suspended arrest warrants for supermodel Ayaan Ali in a customs inspector murder case.

The move followed a day after investigators dealing with the murder of the customs inspector who was a key witness against Ali in a money laundering case succeeded in obtaining arrest warrants for the supermodel.

Ayaan’s new plea against the issuance of her arrest warrants in the murder of Customs inspector, Ejaz Chaudhry, resulted in a two-judge bench led by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan giving notices to interior security, SHO Waris Khan Police, and others.

The supermodel placed a plea in the apex court through her lawyer, Latif Khosa, after arrest warrants were issued by Magistrate Gulfam Butt on Thursday for the arrest of Ayaan and two Pakistan Customs officials, Zargham and Dr. Haroon after the police made a formal request.

The court suspended the arrest warrants, after hearing the arguments of Ayaan’s counsel. The hearing was adjourned until July 27th.

Chaudhry was shot and injured on June 2nd, last year, in the limits of Waris Khan Police. He died at Benazir Bhutto Hospital two days later.

Saima Ejaz, widow of the customs official, in a statement on May 14th, 2016, claimed that Ayaan was responsible for the murder of her husband and that her name needed to be put on the exit control list. She claimed that the police ought to investigate Ayaan’s role in the murder case.

She further said that her husband was in charge of the state warehouse, Air Freight Unit (AFU), PIA cargo at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in 2015. According to her, her husband had taken the money into custody in March last year.

She claimed that Ejaz had told her about the severe pressure resulting from being involved in the currency smuggling case. She alleged that her husband had reported to her that some unknown men had been demanding that he make some fake entries in the official record to favor Ayaan. She claimed that Ejaz had told her that the men had threatened him, saying that  he failed to cooperate with them, he would be killed.
