Hindu teenager killed in Mirpur Mathelo

Two Hindu teenagers were attacked in a small town of Mirpur Mathelo late on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of one. The attack took place late on Tuesday night when Satesh Kumar, 18, and his friend Avinash, 17, were sitting outside a restaurant near Iqbal Petrol Pump in Mirpur Methelo.

According to eye witnesses’ reports, two armed men came on a motorbike and opened fire on the teenagers. It seemed as if they knew who they were and there was a motive behind the attack. Immediately after firing them, the assailants fled the scene and no one stopped them.

Due to the shots, both Kumar and Avinash got seriously injured and they were rushed to the nearest Civil Hospital where Kumar succumbed to his injuries. Avinash was still breathing but his injuries could not be treated at the Civil hospital so he was taken to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab, where he remains in critical condition.

According to some locals, the fatal attack took place as a backlash against an alleged act of blasphemy committed by a local Hindu in nearby Daharki town on Tuesday. However, the police claims that the motive behind the attack was personal enmity and not revenge against blasphemy.

The attack on the Hindu teenagers came just an hour after members from Hindu and Muslim communities met to discuss a blasphemy incident that took place earlier in the day. During the meeting it was decided that law and order will be maintained in the area and no drastic step will be taken.

Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took notice of the incident and has asked for a proper probe into the case.
