In a court hearing on Monday, the judge ordered suspects in Samia Shahid murder case on a 14-day remand to jail. The suspects include Samia Shahid’s father, Muhammad Shahid and her ex-husband Chaudhry Shakeel.

Earlier this month, Chaudhry Shakeel had admitted to killing his ex-wife by strangling her with a dupatta. Muhammad Shahid was also a prime suspect in the case since the beginning as it became clear that he was trying to protect Shakeel after news of Samia’s murder hit the news.

During the court hearing, police told the judge that their work of evidence collection had been completed and that Shakeel and Shahid should be sent on judicial remand. The court instructed the police to present an interim challan for both the suspects in the upcoming hearing.

The next case hearing will be held on September 5 after the two-week remand is completed.

Samia Shahid was a British national of Pakistani origin who had been living with her second husband in Dubai for the past two years. She had married her second husband, Syed Mukhtar Kazam, against the wishes of her family after divorcing her first husband.

In fact, it was Kazam who first brought the case forward to the police claiming that his wife had been killed in the name of honor by her family. On the other hand, Samia’s family had claimed that she had suffered a cardiac arrest due to which she died.

Several conflicting stories by the family further confirmed the suspicions that Samia had indeed been murdered by her own family. Eventually police were able to find her killers and now they are awaiting trial.
