Two teenage girls suspected of ‘terror plot’ arrested in France

France has been a target of militants for terror activities for a few years now and the country is still struggling to root out these threats from its soil. In a recent raid, two teenage Muslim girls were arrested from the Southern French city of Nice on allegations of planning out terror activities in Nice.

According to the details provided, the girls were in touch with notorious Syria-based French militant by the name of Rachid Kassim, who was directing them to carry out these attacks.

The two girls, aged 17 and 19, live in the same area of Nice as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, who drove a truck over a crowd of people in Nice on July 14 and ended up killing 86 people. Bouhlel, who belonged from Tunisia, was also radicalized by Kassim according to sources.

After arresting the two teenagers, authorities searched their homes but no weapons were found. Apparently, the two girls had planned the attacks but later abandoned their plans for some reason.

“They admitted they had been planning a violent attack under the influence of Rachid Kassim before abandoning their plans,” a source in the investigation said.

The 17-year-old girl had never been under the intelligence services’ notice and this was the first time that she had been brought under the radar. However, she once had admitted to ‘hating soldiers’ according to a source.

Meanwhile the 19-year-old teenager is known to investigators from a previous incident in which they found her to be in contact with another French citizen who recruits IS fighters.

Both the girls have been charged with associating with terror suspects.
