The prince of Qatar, Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, who apparently lent money to the Sharif family to buy property in the United Kingdom, is ready to come to Pakistan for cross examination and verification of the claims made by the ruling party to clear their names from the Panama Papers scandal.

Prince Hamamd Al Thani is the owner of REDCO International in Qatar and he is amongst the world’s richest people. He was also the Prime Minister of Qatar and he himself has been named in the Panama Papers for holding offshore companies.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is currently hearing the Panama Papers case in which the ruling PML(N) party leader and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his family has been brought under scrutiny for being named in the controversial papers.

The Sharif family claimed in new documents submitted to the court that Prince Al Thani had lent them money and since he is required in person to verify these documents, he agreed to come to Pakistan. Senior lawyers close the ruling party believe that since most of the evidence presented before the court by the Sharif family are documents of different departments of foreign governments, they will require proper official verification from the concerned countries.

Such verifications will take a lot of time as it is upon the discretion of these countries that when they choose to respond.

Even though Prince Hammad Al Thani has agreed to come to Pakistan for cross-examination, it is not clear when he will get here putting the Panama Papers case at a standstill.
