Qandeel Baloch’s murder case is finally making some headway as a Multan court charged her brother with murder. Baloch was a renowned social media star who drew ire from the public for her provocative and scandalous videos which she used to post on social media.

Baloch was strangulated to death by her own brother, Muhammad Waseem, who admitted to killing her for the sake of ‘honor’. Now that he has been charged for murder, trial will begin in one of the country’s highest-profile ‘honor killing’ case.

Waseem was brought to the court in the central city of Multan on Monday along with his cousin Haq Nawaz, who is also an accomplice in the murder case. A third accomplice, taxi driver Abdul Basit is on bail and he has already been indicted by the court.

“Judge Muhammad Saeed Raza indicted all the three men and adjourned the hearing until December 8,” a government prosecutor told AFP on condition of anonymity Tuesday, because he is not authorized to speak to media.

So far the accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. “The court also asked police to submit a complete list of charges against all the accused on the next date of hearing,” the prosecutor added.

When Waseem appeared before the press in July, he said that he was not remorseful over what he had done. He termed his sister’s behavior as ‘intolerable’ and said that she deserved what she had been meted out with.

Just a few weeks before her death, Baloch made headlines for her selfies with high-profile religious scholar, Mufti Abdul Qavi. Initially even he was considered a suspect in the case, but he was later cleared.
