It seems that Mumtaz Qadri’s supporters are now out to get slain governor Salman Taseer’s son as he posted a Christmas message, wishing the minority group a merry Christmas and showing support to those who are facing blasphemy charge.

According to the details of the incident provided, Shaan Taseer revealed on Monday that he has received several ‘very credible death threats’ from Qadri’s supporters-the same man who killed his father and who was hanged in February last year.

“They are sending me Mumtaz Qadri’s photos with messages that there are several Mumtaz Qadris waiting for me,” he said.

These death threats to Shaan Taseer are being sent to him for a video message that he posted on his Facebook page, in which he wished a happy holiday to Christians living in Pakistan and also asked for prayers for those people who are facing blasphemy charges.

While the exact identity of the threat-makers has not been revealed by Taseer, representatives of Sunni Tehreek have said that they have demanded police in Lahore to charge Shaan Taseer with blasphemy.

When the police was contacted for a comment, they avoided making any. A copy of the complaint did not mention Shaan Taseer by name. It has been reported that the police have opened an investigation under the blasphemy laws Section 295-A, which bans hate speech against any religion.

Meanwhile the Sunni Tehreek has threatened to come to the streets if the police don’t charge Taseer under Section 295-C, which deals with Blasphemy against Islam or the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Sunni Tehreek leader Mujahid Abdur Rasool said the group was in negotiations with the government over the case.

“When we gave them a warning for protests, a delegation of Punjab government met us today,” Rasool said, adding they had set a deadline of Tuesday for police to meet their demands.

He said Sunni Tehreek was not calling for Taseer’s murder, only his prosecution and eventual execution.
