People of Srinagar are often subjected to brutal inflictions by the Indian Army, but some of the personnel took things a little far by using a local man as a human shield while travelling through an area which had some protestors.

A video posted on the social media shows a man tied to the front of an Indian Army jeep, being paraded around the streets of Srinagar. The man looks helpless as he cannot even move and has to endure the ordeal in scorching heat.

According to the reports, an FIR has been registered against the Indian Army personnel on several charges. The FIR has been registered under sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 367 (kidnapping or abducting in order to subject person to grievous hurt) of the Ranbir Penal Code.

According to the details provided, the Kashmiri civilian was used as a ‘human shield’ in the polling area called Beerwah of the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency on April 9.

As soon as the video went viral, a public outcry was created worldwide due to which the Chief Minister of Indian Occupied Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti had to respond to the incident by ordering the police to submit a report. Meanwhile the Indian Army also took action and said that it was analyzing the video and its credibility.

It was found out that the man in the video is a Kashmiri local by the name of Farooq Ahmed Dar. He said that he endured a four-hour ordeal of being paraded in a village tied to the front of a jeep as a warning to protesting locals.

In an interview to the Indian Express, the 26-year-old had explained he was “not a stone-pelter. Never in my life have I thrown stones [at anyone]. I work as an embroiderer of shawls, and I know some carpentry. This is what I do.”
