Illegal organ transplant scandal: another accused busted in Sialkot

The main person accused of the illegal organ transplant gang has been arrested from Sialkot according to the latest police sources. The suspect has been identified as Abdul Majeed who was hiding in Sialkot since the time the operation against this illegal operation began.

According to the details provided, Abdul Majeed has been accused of tracking kidney patients in foreign countries and then connecting them to Dr. Fawad, who would then lure the patients to get kidneys from Pakistan. Abdul Majeed would charge Rs. 4 million for each kidney.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala official carried out a raid and made the arrest. During interrogation, Abdul Majeed revealed the names of five other people who were involved in this crime.

In some countries like the US, Europe and Canada, it is very difficult to get organs on time as the patients have to be on a waiting list based on the severity of the disease. Therefore, these international clients would choose to get kidneys from developing countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh sooner and at a cheaper rate.

When news of this illegal gang conducting organ transplant hit the news, raids were conducted and several accused were arrested. Earlier this month, the FIA raided a colony in Lahore and busted an illegal kidney transplant clinic. During the raid several accused, including Dr. Fawad, Dr. Khalid and Dr. Altamash were arrested and imprisoned.

After arresting the doctors, two foreigners who were in the process of buying kidneys were also arrested. While talking to reporters, FIA Assistant Director Jameel Ahmed Khan said that the foreigners, who belonged to Oman, were arrested so that a message could be sent to the international community that Pakistan is not the place for illegal organ transplant.
