Aitzaz Hassan’s family receives Taliban threats, asks for government’s protection

Aitzaz Hassan saved the lives of hundreds of children at a school in Hangu after sacrificing his own and for this reason, he is hated by the Taliban. Now Aitezaz’s family has been receiving death threats allegedly from the Taliban and they are asking the government to help them and ensure their safety.

Aitezez was a 15-year-old student who jumped on a suicide bomber as he diffused his bomb, ending up saving the lives of hundreds of innocent students. He became a national hero after committing this brave act on January 6, 2014 and was later awarded the Sitara-e-Shujaat.

However, now it seems that the government has forgotten about his family as they are pleading for their safety as they cautiously go about living their lives in their village of Ibrahimzi, despite receiving death threats.

Aitzaz’s elder brother, Mujtaba said while talking to reporters, that on April 3 this year, the family received a threatening letter from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). In the letter, it was stated; “Aitzaz Hasan is not a hero nor a martyr. Aitzaz’s brother Mujtaba should stop meeting media and officials of government institutions otherwise he will be responsible for any loss.”

Three days later, Mujtaba went to the local police station and registered a complaint asking the authorities to provide protection to his family. However, the police have still not registered a case as inquiry is still underway.

After not getting any support from the local authorities, Mujtaba wrote to the Interior Minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of police requesting for providing protection to his family.

He hopes that the federal government will take notice and provide them with the necessary protection.
