The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was able to solve the murder case of a student from Bahria University Karachi, who was kidnapped and killed in 2015.

CTD officials told reporters that they were able to solve the case which could not have been solved by local police authorities, providing closure to the victim’s family. The officials claim that the boy was killed on the same day that he was kidnapped, and the suspects have been running free since then.

Bilal Rizwan, a 22-year-old resident of Al Falah in District East was kidnapped on November 4, 2015, by none other than his own friends. He was kidnapped for ransom but the suspects killed him on the same day after the situation went out of their control.

His family had no idea that their son had been killed and FIR No. 361/15 was registered at the Shah Faisal Colony police station, three days after his disappearance. The complaint was registered on complaint of Rizwan’s family under Section 365/34 (kidnapping) against unidentified persons.

Rizwan’s body was found nearly a month later on December 12, 2015, and an FIR was registered in the same police station where he was reported missing.

“Interestingly, his kidnapping and body recovery FIRs were registered at the same police station but no one figured out that the victim was one and the same, as his body was completely burnt,” explained CTD incharge Raja Omar Khattab. “The killers were not strangers to Rizwan. They were his own friends who kidnapped and killed him in order to get ransom money.”

Rizwan’s so-called friends—Adeel Rehman, Noman Qureshi and Danish Amir – made a plan to kidnap and kill Rizwan because firstly they wanted money and secondly Rizwan was also dating Rehman’s sister which made the suspect uncomfortable.

Another reason for killing Rizwan was that if they let him go free, he would have reported them to authorities.

“The victim came from a wealthy background and Qureshi, who ran a gym, was facing financial losses. He and Rehman decided to first kidnap Rizwan and obtain the ransom money,” the officer explained.

Arrest warrants for the suspects have been issued and the police are trying to round them up.
