Young Muslims burnt in acid attack in London

A 21-year-old aspiring model by the name of Resham Khan and her 37-year-old cousin Jameel Mukhtar were left with horrid injuries after they suffered an unprovoked acid attack in London.

Both Khan and Mukhtar were out celebrating her 21st birthday when someone threw acid on them in their parked car at a traffic signal in Beckton, East London.

“The pain was excruciating”, Khan wrote on her Twitter. “My cousin struggled to get us away. I saw my clothes burn away in front of me.”

Khan recently graduated from Cyprus, Turkey after completing a degree in Business Management and was looking for a job in London. However, the tragic incident has changed her life completely.

A fundraising page was set up by the victim’s friends and family and it states that a lot needs to be done to restore their health. It also stated, “The scars Resham and Jameel carry will last a lifetime.”

Khan suffered major damage to her left eye and was burned across her face. Meanwhile, Mukhtar was reportedly placed in an induced coma after suffering from severe burns across his head, face and body. His left eye was also damaged and a skin graft is needed.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Both victims have suffered burn injuries described as life-changing. It is believed the victims were inside a parked car when a man approached and threw a corrosive substance through the open window.”

She also expressed her disappointment and disbelief over the occurrence of such incidents and stated, “I’m devastated. I keep wondering if my life will ever be the same. Acid attacks in the UK are unheard of for me.”

So far the culprit has not been caught but efforts are underway to identify and arrest him.
