The former minister for interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan resigned from his post after he announced in a press conference last week that he would step down no matter what the decision of the Supreme Court would be regarding the Panama Papers case.

On Monday, the former interior minister wrote a letter to the secretary interior, in which he acknowledged the efforts of his entire ministry, including the heads and staff of its attached departments for their hard-work, commitment and diligence with which they carried out their duties during his tenure.

Nisar wrote that he appreciated the work of his team which helped him in achieving his vision and translating it into reality by working tirelessly. He also acknowledged the services of former interior secretaries who worked with him during this period for their cooperation and commitment to bring significant change in the working environment.

Nisar said, “From issues connected to our national security, the fight against militants to ensuring internal security and maintenance of law and order, from various administrative measures and internal reforms within our organizations to formulating new policies aimed at restoring sanctity of our laws and introducing transparency and rule of law, we had multi-dimensional tasks before as whatever we have been able to accomplish during this period is a matter of record.”

“I realise that at times my expectations from the ministry and its attached departments exceeded institutional capacities but we must not forget that people of Pakistan look towards the politicians and bureaucrats of country for redressal of their issues,” he said.

“We cannot afford to be oblivious of their issues and problems. I am confident that each and every officer has a realization of his responsibilities and what we owe to our people and our country,” he added.

Nisar has been with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for the past 33 years but he had developed some differences with the current leadership lately. Due to this, he announced his resignation from the ministry last week.
