Oscar Pistorius hospitalized due to heart condition

The jailed Paralympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius, was taken to the hospital on Thursday and kept there for the night, because he was complaining of chest pains. The quadriplegic will undergo tests to uncover the reasons of his chest pains and if there is no problem found, he will be transported back to the jail where he is serving his term.

“This morning he went for a medical examination and he was scheduled to return back (to jail), but he will now be kept overnight for observation,” Logan Maistry, spokesman for the department of correctional services, told AFP.

Maistry added that the department would not release details on Pistorius’s medical condition.

Pistorius, 30, is serving a six-year jail term for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkemp back in 2013. She was a model and a law graduate who was killed in the athlete’s Pretoria house.

Pistorius has always maintained his stance that he accidentally killed his girlfriend, mistaking her for an intruder in the house. He shot four high-caliber bullets through a locked toilet cubicle which hit Steenkemp and she died on the spot.

While he was on parole, he gave an interview in which he said that an ‘instant fear’ had driven him to pull the trigger and shoot at what he thought was an intruder.

The trial following her death was a high-profile one as Pistorius, also known as the ‘Blade Runner’, was a famous Paralympic athlete who had several wins under his belt.

The same year Pistorius killed Steenkamp, he had become the first double-amputee to race at Olympic level when he participated at the London 2012 games.
