Madonna makes Portugal her new abode

Famous singer Madonna has moved from London to a more serene place and is loving her new life in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. According to reports, the western European country is becoming a favorite spot for expats to settle due to its natural beauty and emerging fashion trends.
“I used to be a basket case but now I live in Lisbon,” she wrote on Instagram on Sunday under a photo of baskets hanging from the ceiling of an old Portuguese kitchen.
According to local media reports, the singer has bought a 7.5 million-euro ($9 million) estate in the mountains of Sintra, outside Lisbon, and while her new home is being refurbished, she will continue to stay in the royal suite at the Pestana Palace hotel.
Sources have revealed that Madonna has bought an 18th century Quinta do Relogio estate which was previously listed for sale on Engel&Volkers real estate agency’s website.
While the exact reason for shifting to Portugal have not been revealed, reports claim that one of the main reasons for her to do so is because of her 11-year-old son David Banda, who has started his soccer training at the youth academy of Benfica, located in Lisbon.
If the reports are true, Madonna – who wrote that “the energy of Portugal is so inspiring” – joins film stars Michael Fassbender and Monica Bellucci who have bought properties in Lisbon in the past year.
During the past few years, Portugal is fast becoming one of Europe’s best destinations for expatriates to live. The gaining popularity of the country is due to the fact that it has been rated as world’s best for quality of life, in a survey which was published by social network InterNations on Wednesday.
Portugal boasts sandy beaches, golf courses, historic castles and some of the lowest prices in Western Europe.
