The former Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan recently appeared in an interview program on Geo News called Jirga with Saleem Safi, shared his views about Maryam Nawaz, among other things.
The daughter of disqualified Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, is at the forefront of politics these days campaigning for her mother Kulsoom Nawaz for the upcoming NA-120 by-elections.
When the anchorperson of the show, Saleem Safi, compared Maryam Nawaz with Benazir Bhutto, Nisar denounced that comparison.
“Comparing Maryam Nawaz to Benazir Bhutto is wrong,” Nisar told Saleem Safi, adding that there is a considerable difference between the two.
Nisar argued that Maryam Nawaz should only be considered as the daughter of Nawaz Sharif at the moment and not a political leader at this time.
“Children are only children, they cannot be accepted as leaders,” Nisar stated, adding that they are “non-political”.
The ex-minister further added that in order for Maryam to be declared as a political leader, she will have to prove her mettle first by partaking in real politics.
“Maryam Nawaz should understand and partake in practical politics. Only then can she be considered a leader,” Nisar said.
Nisar added how Benazir Bhutto had endured jail time and was confronted with numerous other challenges during her political career.
“Benazir Bhutto spent time in jail and suffered a lot,” he added.
The former interior minister does not usually appear in talk shows, preferring press conferences instead. However, in this rare interview, he talked about his political career and many other important aspects in the politics today.
