Karachi: Teenage housemaid tortured, raped by employers

A female teenage housemaid working for a family residing in Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Phase VI, Karachi, was badly beaten by her employers and also raped, according to her father’s allegations.

On Wednesday, the police arrested five members of the family that the victim identified as her employers and torturers. Two women were also arrested by the police.

According to the details provided, the 16-year-old maid worked at a residential apartment in Phase VI, DHA. She had been working for the family for the past few months and had been subjected to torture before as well.

She was initially shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center and later transferred to the burns ward of Civil hospital for treatment.

“I was tortured and burned with a hot iron,” the victim told investigators. “I cried for mercy but they did not show any sympathy and continued to torture me for a long time. They laughed while I was crying.”

The victim’s father told the media that his daughter was raped. “They have sexually assaulted my daughter,” he claimed, adding that when he reached Jinnah hospital there was no female medico-legal officer and they suggested moving the victim to Civil hospital instead.

The family approached the police themselves to register a case against the accused. The police have registered an FIR No 742/17 against the suspects on behalf of the victim’s father and initiated further investigations.
