Kallar Kahar is known for its dangerous curves and accident prone road leading to a number of fatal vehicle crashes. On Wednesday evening, a deadly accident took place in the Kallar Kahar area as a result of which 24 people died and 66 got injured.

According to reports, a bus carrying more than 90 passengers careened off a bridge and fell into a gorge in Kallar Kahar tehsil of Punjab’s Chakwal division. The accident took place near the Dhok Pathan area and was reportedly caused by brake failure.

It was reported that the bus carrying the passengers was coming from Raiwand area and was on its way to Kohat when it met the fatal accident. The bus was moving at a fast speed and when the driver tried to slow it down he realized that the brakes had failed, leading him to jump the bus off the bridge.

Most of the passengers on-board the ill-fated bus were members of Tableeghi Jamaat who were returning home after attending their annual congregation in Raiwand. Every years, thousands of people throng to the area to attend a religious gathering.

Rescue teams arrived at the scene of the accident and shifted the injured and dead bodies to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment and autopsy purposes. Doctors at the facility fear that the death toll may rise because some of the injured are in critical condition.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the incident and also sought a report of the incident. He has ordered the concerned authorities to provide immediate medical treatment and relief to all those injured in the crash.
