Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riordan dies at 46

The lead singer of famous rock back The Cranberries suddenly died at the age of 46, leaving her fans in a state of shock. The death took place on Monday, while the singer had gone for a short trip to London for a recording session.

The Cranberries is an Irish group which had Dolores’s distinctive singing style as its competitive advantage. The singer would incorporate her distinctive Irish tilt and yoddle, into the songs, making them very pleasing to the US audience. The group shot to fame in the 1990s, with its hits like ‘Linger’ and ‘Zombie’. The Cranberries became one of the most successful bands of the 1990s, selling more than 40 million records.

Meanwhile Dolores’s publicist shared the news of her death with the world.
“Irish and international singer Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London today,” publicist Lindsey Holmes said in a statement.

“Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” Holmes said.

The cause of Dolores’s death is still not known. It’s also not apparent whether the singer suffered from any illness or health problem.

Dolores had recently gotten divorced and has three children.

According to reports, Dolores struggled with fame after the band shot to fame in 1993 with the release of its debut album. The band cut short a tour in 1996, citing the lead singer’s exhaustion and disillusionment as a cause for it.

In 2015 O‘Riordan pleaded guilty to headbutting and spitting at an Irish police officer following an alleged air rage incident.

Last year, The Cranberries cancelled a number of concerts in North America and Europe saying that Dolores was suffering from back problems.

In a statement, Irish President Michael D Higgins described O‘Riordan’s death as a big loss to Irish music, describing her influence as “immense”.
