SC summons TV anchor Shahid Masood to reveal details regarding Zainab’s murderer

During a talk show, television anchor Shahid Masood alleged that Zainab’s murderer, Imran Ali, is not a simpleton, rather he is part of a pornography ring and is backed by a Punjab minister. He further alleged that the suspect has 37 international bank accounts, further proving his point.

Reacting to these shocking revelations, the Supreme Court on Thursday morning, summoned Masood to provide clarity regarding the revelations he made during the show. During the hearing, Masood and Punjab additional advocate general Asma Hamid were both present in the court.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar himself was presiding the hearing and he asked the anchorperson to write down the names of the provincial minister and other higher-ups he had mentioned during the show. Masood wrote down what he knew and passed the paper to the CJP.

Nisar assured Masood that these names will be kept confidential till the time the investigation is completed. He also warned Masood that such a heavy allegation should not be false.

A three-judge bench, headed by the CJP, watched the footage of the TV show in court and advised the Punjab Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz Khan and a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the evidence provided by the anchorperson.

Masood alleged before the judges that the suspect in custody for the murder of Zainab and other children is not “mentally challenged or simpleminded”, but rather a “member of an international ring”. He has 37 foreign currency bank accounts, and the backing of the country’s most important personality and a minister, the anchorperson told the court.

He further said that the suspect’s life is also under threat and there are chances that he might be killed in police custody.

“The matter of the suspect’s security is very important,” the CJP said, adding that the responsibility to ensure his security in police custody is the IGP’s.

“The suspect’s security should be foolproof,” the CJP asserted.

The case was adjourned until Monday.
