One comes across several warnings related to using the cellphone while it is being charged, but most of the times, such warnings go unheeded. In a recent incident, a cellphone exploded in the ear of a teenage Indian girl, who was using the device while it was being charged.
According to the details of the incident provided, Uma Oram, 18, was reportedly charging the device while talking to a relative when it exploded, leaving her badly injured.
Oram was at her home in Odisha state when the incident occurred and she immediately fell unconscious after the explosion. She had sustained injuries to her hand, chest and leg which led her to fall unconscious. She was later confirmed dead after her relatives rushed her to a nearby hospital.
Oram’s brother, while talking to reporters, revealed that his sister was going to talk to a family member but she found out that her cellphone was out of battery. Instead of making the call after the phone was fully charged and plugged out, she made the call while it was still being charged and this led to an explosion.
“As the battery of the mobile phone was draining out, she plugged it for charging while talking over it simultaneously,” he said.
“Before we could know what exactly happened, she fell unconscious. She was declared dead at the hospital.”
The exact cause of the explosion is still not known but it is being speculated that the device blew up due to fluctuations in electricity.
Police reportedly visited the site of the incident occurred to gather information as an investigation has been started and the girl’s body shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem.
