Sridevi died unexpectedly last month and left behind many broken hearts and unfinished projects. It has been learnt that she had been signed up in Abhishek Varman’s new directorial which is set to begin production soon. However, after her demise, the role has been given to Madhuri Dixit.
The news was shared by Sridevi’s daughter, Jhanvi Kapoor on Monday.
“Abhishek Varman’s next film was very close to mom’s heart… Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuriji for now being a part of this beautiful film,” Janhvi posted on her Instagram page.
She also shared a warm photograph featuring Madhuri and Sridevi, who were considered professional rivals at one point in their careers.
The movie, which has been tentatively titled Shiddat, is a period drama set in the 1940s and it follows the story of a young couple and their love story set in the backdrop of Pakistan-India partition.
Other cast members for the movie include Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapoor.
Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi were originally supposed to play the part of parents to a young couple, rumored to be Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, in the film. Aditya Roy Kapoor is said to play the party of Varun’s brother in the movie but till now only Sridevi and Sanjay’s roles had been officially confirmed in the film.
So far Madhuri Dixit herself has not confirmed or denied these reports but Jhanvi’s Instagram post is the only official confirmation of these rumors.
The last time Sridevi had appeared in any movie was in Mom, in which she played the character of Sajal Ali’s mother.
Sridevi passed away on February 24 in United Arab Emirates. The cause of her death was cited as accidental drowning in a bath tub.
