MQM decides to take on Zulfiqar Mirza’s territory by fielding a candidate from Badin in the next elections

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has hit back at the former Home Minister of Sindh, Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, by revealing that they are going to compete at the ballot box from Badin in the upcoming elections.

The Parliamentary leader of MQM, Dr. Farooq Sattar, told the media they have a strong political role in Badin and they are going to compete from there in the upcoming elections.

“We will have a stronger political role there now,” said MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said while talking to The Express Tribune in an interview at the party’s Karachi office.

Sattar didn’t give out the candidate’s name to the media but certainly ensured that MQM has made up its mind to move forward instead of indulging themselves in a war of words with Mirza.

MQM’s head Altaf Hussian, last Sunday, while addressing his workers at Lahore via telephone disclosed that MQM is also planning to compete from southern Punjab in the by-elections, provided if chief Minister of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Shahbaz Sharif, dissolves the Punjab Assembly.

“We’ve held a well-attended rally in Dera Ismail Khan and in Parachinar as well,” Sattar said. “We plan to work in southern Punjab too.”

Though MQM has previously competed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, they don’t have many supporters in Badin. However, when it comes to Punjab their chances to gain any significance become even low, as the biggest threat at the present situation to PML-N is Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Meanwhile, former Sindh chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, is also planning to make a comeback into the active politics, as Rahim, with three of his MPA’s, has submitted an application to Sindh Assembly Speaker, Nisar Khuhro, for the nomination as an opposition leader.

However, a group member MPA Chettan Mal Arwani told The Express Tribune, “We have heard that the speaker said that he will not let Rahim be leader of the opposition until the case between the PML-Q and its forward bloc members is resolved. We will be meeting with him on Tuesday to discuss the issue.”
