Is Real Democracy too much to ask from the people of Pakistan?

The general definition of democracy refers to a form of government in which the superlative power is vested among the people of the country and exercised directly by those people or indirectly by their designated representative underneath a free and fair
electoral system. In simple words, Democracy is a government by people characterized by equality of privileges and rights.

However in Pakistan, the word ‘Democracy’ has relatively a different concept when the people in authority misuses their power and the ordinary people have no problem whatsoever in selling their rights.

Since the last two decades, with every democratic government followed the tale of rigging the elections in which the truth has always been an ingredient. But that’s something which is associated with the people in power.

The major dilemma in Pakistan is that the ordinary people don’t understand the importance of their right to cast a vote. Our Society is divided on caste system and feudalism which is one of the major obstacles to bring in Real Democracy in the country.

The general phenomenon in Pakistan is that a person from one caste won’t even consider giving his vote to someone of a different caste. In fact, each caste takes it as an offense if any person of their groups supports a person of a different class.

On top of that, the feudalism in our country has absolutely demolished the concept of Real Democracy. The whole community or the village in our society which works under feudalism is bound to cast their votes by the choice of their feudal lords and still
we root for the so-called democracy in Pakistan despite knowing these heartbreaking facts.

Selling votes for money or some other reward, forcing people to cast their votes to a particular person and unethical conducts in the voting system are few of the many painful truths in our society which we seem to do nothing about.

Among those people who are fortunately not a part such black systems, most of them have no faith in change and they don’t take the matter seriously to use their rights in the best way possible. They believe that the corrupted customs in our society will
never change.

Considering the whole situation, the question exists that is Real Democracy too much to ask from the people of Pakistan.
