Eunuchs – A dejected look at the ‘third’ kind

The transgender community in Pakistan has always been ill-treated and no one has seriously thought of their rights. They are given no choice but to beg on the streets or earn by becoming prostitutes.

Eunuchs are seen as a joke in our society, as people make fun of them and do not give them any respect. They do not have the option of going to schools or colleges, which leaves them without basic education.

The main problem in our society is that we treat the third kind inhumanly. Most of us think that they do not have feelings and can be abused like animals.

Honestly speaking, even animals are treated better than the ‘Khawaja Siras,’ term used for the shemales in Pakistan.

How can we treat someone like this? We as Muslims are taught to be kind to everyone and love humanity. However, the reality is far from it.

According to a survey conducted in Pakistan, 60 percent of the population does not want to be friends with the eunuchs whereas only 14 percent replied positively. The remaining 26 percent were unsure whether it will be a correct choice to make or not.

This is such a disheartening fact and probably will never change in our society. Recently, a third kind was interviewed over such an inhuman treatment and she said, “We are the biggest joke there is but people don’t laugh with us or at us. They laugh behind
our backs. So we make fun of ourselves and badger all these people in their fancy cars who don’t know how lucky they are simply to have been born whole.”

We need to understand that the transgender community did not choose to be like this. They are born with this disability and have no control over God’s will.

Another eunuch once commented in an interview, “All these people in their big houses and cars do all the things that we do. They drink, dance and listen to music. They are garish and loud but they do it at fancy parties. We live on the fringes but we see
the hypocrisy all around us. Maybe we are better off.”

For once, we need to think positively and start treating the Khawaja Siras as human beings. If we were born like them, we would have then realised the pain they undergo.
