Lecturers boycott classes to demand increment in their salaries all over Punjab

Lahore, October 28: Lecturers of different institutions of Punjab have boycotted the classes of over 500 colleges in order to force the government to fulfil their demands. Their major demand is to get increment in their salaries, which was promised to them
by the government of Punjab.

Yesterday, the lecturers from all over the province gathered in front of the MAO College Lahore and marched towards Civil Secretariat under the banner of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) for launching their protest against
the government for getting their right.

It was decided that 50 percent increment would be given to the lecturers of government colleges in the 2011-12 budget which was conducted in June. However, after passing four months of the promised time, the teachers have not received
any increment so far.

All participants of this protest carried the play cards having slogans against the government of Punjab. They wanted the concerned authorities to fulfil their promise and give them their right by increasing their salaries.

The speakers of this protest including Dr Zahid Ahmad PPLA President, Shahid Chaudhary PPLA Vice President, Syed Tanveer Shah, PPLA General Secretary and many others also made it clear that if their demands are not fulfilled, they will launch a countrywide
protest on November 20 to 23, which will force the government to fulfil its promise regarding the increment in the salaries of the teachers.

The students of different institutions also joined their teachers in this protest indicating that they are with their teachers and want government to give the promised salaries to the teachers. This protest also caused traffic jam on the busy road near the
Civil Secretariat.

This protest against the Punjab government came after waiting for four months after the approval of 2011-12 budget. Government promised 50 percent increment in the salaries of lecturers all over Punjab. However, the government failed to fulfil the promise
which forced the teachers to boycott the classes and protest for getting their right.

Now, if Punjab government ignores this protest and does not take any step to satisfy the teachers, they will launch a massive protest in the upcoming month of November.
