Goldur team beat Jughur by 1-0 in the final match of Chitral District Football tournament

In the final of Chitral district football tournament played here on Tuesday in Parade Ground, Goldur team beat Hamaqadam Club Jughoor by one goal and emerged out as winner of the tournament. Waseem Abbas was declared as the best player of the tournament.

More than twenty thousand fans of the game witnessed the hotly contested match as the stadium had been packed to its capacity and a good number of people were seen watching the match by climbing the nearby trees and the minarets of the mosque adjacent to
the ground.

Waseem Abbas of the victorious team scored a field goal in the 15th minute of the first half which was retained by the team until to the last whistle of the referee and aborted a dozen numbers of desperate attempts of the losing team to level the difference.

Thirty-eight teams participated in the tourney representing all the twenty-four union councils of the district, which lasted for three weeks.

Ashfaq Ahmed (captain), Muzammil, Imran, Ubaidullah, Salam Zaib, Fazlur Rahman, Shakirullah, Zahid Gul, Sarwar Khan, Ziaur Rahman, Ikramullah and two real brothers Waseem Abbas and Saleem Abbas, represented Goldur team.

The players of Jughoor team consisted of Gul Aga (captain), Naveed Rahim, Farhan, Abbas Khan, Samad Abbas, Tauseef Ahmed, Inzamam, Izharul Haq, Ijaz Ahmed and Sharif.

DCO Chitral Rahmatullah Wazir was chief guest on the occasion who gave away prizes to the players. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the players of the tournament for their performance and said that the players of the area were inferior to none others
in the province despite the fact that they did not had a facility of even playground.

He said that during the current fiscal year, the expansion and levelling of two football grounds have been included in the annual development programme while to give a football stadium to Chitralis for the first time, the matter has been taken up with the
provincial government and the approval of it is imminent in near future.

Earlier, the president of district football association, Taj Muhammad Khan described in detail the issues deterring the promotion of football in the district and listed the lack of playing fields and the indifference of the government towards the game. He
said that the players of the district have proved their mettle in the competitions outside the district but they are deprived of patronage from a government institution.
