The Bollywood romantic hero Dev Anand passes away

The Bollywood romantic hero and director Dev Anand has passed away at the age of 88, due to cardiac arrest.

It was reported by Press Trust of India news agency that the legendary actor, who had ruled Indian film industry golden era with his co-stars Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor, died at British Capital on Saturday, due to heart attack.

"He was never sick. Even when I spoke to him last evening, he sounded fine — hale and hearty," Churiwala said.

The Indian fashion icon Dev was often compared to United State’s film actor Gregory Peck due to his matinee idol looks ‘Debonair Dev’. Having a unique style, Dev starred in more than 100 Indian films.  He made his acting debut
in “Hum Ek Hain” (We Are One) alongside his friend Guru Dutt in 1946 and even continued hi s career with the same passion at the old age, starring in “Chargesheet” — which was made by his own production company in 2011.

“For me, until I die, movie-making and acting will always be my first and last love,” said Dev Anand in his earlier statement.

For his remarkable services to Indian film industry, Dev has received a number of awards:

In 1958, he won the Best Actor award for his film Kalapani whereas he also received award for his best film ‘Guide’.  He was nominated for Best Actor awards four times for his acting in different films like Munimji, Love Marriage,
Kala Bazar and Hum Dono.

The romantic hero also won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991. He was also honoured with Star Screen Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. He also received India’s third highest civilian honour in 2011. He married the
actress Kalpana Kartik in 1954 and had two children, a son and a daughter.

The whole Indian film industry is mourning at the death of deceased Dev Anand.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "T 579 – Just reading news about Dev Saheb .. praying it is not true ! He was such a positive person.. never associated death with him …

Shah Rukh Khan said in his tweet, "Dev sahib’s sad demise makes me feel that the film industry is incomplete & has lost its magical energy. May Allah bless his soul."
