INCEPTION

Christopher Nolan’s Inception is a 2010 science fiction flick and was released on July, 2010 worldwide. The film features an international ensemble cast starring Leonardo DiCaprio Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy,
Dileep Rao and Michael Caine.

It centres on a thief, Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) who possesses the power to enter into the dreams of others. DiCaprio doesn’t steal things, however, he steal ideas and information that even the best computer hackers can’t get to.  He
finally gets a chance at redemption which involves executing his toughest job to date.

The development of this $160 million budgeted movie began roughly nine years before its release. The Director, Nolan wrote an 80-page treatment about dream-stealers, presenting the idea to Warner Bros. It was originally envisioned
as a horror film inspired by concepts of lucid dreaming and dream incubation. After spending time in The Dark Knight, The Prestige, Batman Begins, he polished the script for Inception before Warner Bros. purchased it. Filming took place in six countries and
four continents, beginning in Tokyo on June, 2009 and ending in Canada on November of the same year.

The 148 minutes movie’s budget was split between Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Nolan’s reputation and success with The Dark Knight helped booked the film’s $100 million in advertising expenditure. The movie was released
in 195 IMAX and 3,792 conventional theatres.

Inception grossed $21.8 million during its opening day and $62.7 million on its opening weekend, securing the top spot in the Box Office. Its opening weekend gross made it the second highest grossing debut for a science fiction
movie that was not a sequel, prequel or adaption, behind Avatar’s $77 million opening weekend gross in 2009.  The film secured the top spot of the Box Office rankings in its second and third weekend before dropping to second place in its fourth week, behind
The Other Guys.

The movie mainly received positive reviews with good ratings.

Review Aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gave rating of 8 out of 10 based on 280 reviews and stated, “Smart, innovative, and thrilling, Inception is that rare summer blockbuster that succeeds viscerally as well as intellectually.”

Inception is worth a watch and should be on everyone’s radar.
