Qatar bans Bollywood film ‘The Dirty Picture’

The State of Qatar has banned one of the most talked about Indian movies of 2011 ‘The Dirty Picture’ and the reason behind is of course the bold language and scenes present in the film. The news was confirmed
by one of the senior officials of the Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company (QCFDC).

The official told the media that since Qatar is a Muslim country, it has some set cinematic rules and regulations. He also revealed that some other Bollywood films have also been banned along with ‘The
Dirty Picture’.

“In fact, a number of Arab and Hollywood movies were banned in recent months. May be, only very few Indian movies were banned in the country in the recent past,” he recalled.

“In Qatar, we have some clear rules on screening a movie and the cinema operators need to go by the standards set by the country’s film regulator’s decision,” the QCFDC official stated.

‘The Dirty Picture’, which sees Bollywood Buzz Vidya Balan playing a lead role in it, is one of the biggest hits of this year. The film is based on the lifestyle of late southern sex icon, Silk Smitha,
thus there is a very bold language used in the movie alongside many bold scenes.

The film, in which Balan for the first time showed people how good she can be in her erotic best, was released in the cinemas worldwide on December 2, 2011 on the birth anniversary of Smitha. Present with
Balan were Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor, as they also played lead roles in the film.

The movie has been liked by the people a lot as a result to which it collected an amount Rs 9 crore on the very first day at the Indian Box Office. Nevertheless, it is fair to say that ‘The Dirty Picture’
could have earned a lot more, if Qatar hadn’t put a ban on it because there are many people in Qatar who like to watch Bollywood movies.
