People of Pakistan should show some love for their own culture

If there is one thing that Pakistan needs to do right away, it is to get rid of the notion that their culture is “out-dated” and not good enough to grip firmly.

While a lot of people will argue that dressing up in jeans and t-shirts, putting our English speaking skills on exhibition at every given opportunity, watching American films, eating at restaurants such as KFC, Hardees and McDonalds are all harmless activities,
the fact is that these activities are borrowed from another country and do not represent the Pakistani culture.

Culture defines the manner in which a society generally acts, interacts and basically carries itself. For majority of the countries in the world, it probably does not hold a lot of significance, but for a country like Pakistan, culture holds a great deal
of importance.

With such a rich culture, it is sad to see the Pakistani nation putting in an immense amount of effort to copy other countries. People are dwelling in the complex that maybe their own manner of living and traditions are not good enough, thinking of them
to be a bit back-ward. Rather than holding on to their originality confidently, they start doubting it and instead start stealing the traditions and lifestyle of European and other western countries.

With every passing month, people are becoming increasingly convinced that there is no need to keep the Pakistani culture alive and instead focused on spreading the western culture. The cinemas are showing foreign films, thus promoting foreign culture. The
designers in Pakistan are using Gucci, Armani and Versace as an inspiration instead of their own culture. “Shalwar Kameez” is rapidly getting replaced with new styles of jeans and t-shirts.

With so many varieties of desi dishes on offer at numerous restaurants in the country, people are opting to go for franchises of McDonalds, KFC, Hardees, etc. The only hype that surrounds these restaurants is that they are from other countries, which is
an absurd reason to start worshipping them.

Pakistani people are also neglecting their own sports such as “guli danda,” “kabaddi” and other such sports and instead mad about sports that do not even have a Pakistani team competing in it.

The Pakistani people are indeed stupid if they think that acting, talking and behaving like western countries suits them. Watching a Pakistani behave in an artificial manner is the same as a dog walking on two legs. It is about time for the nation to stop
embarrassing itself and embrace the culture that they have inherited instead of chasing something that is not even theirs.
