Talented Pakistan batsman, Asad Shafiq has said that he has learning from his mistakes and this would help him improve his skills day by day.

The 26-year-old was start of the show, when the Cornered Tigers thrashed England by 72 runs in the second Test at Abu Dhabi.

After a poor performance in the opening game, Shafiq was under immense pressure. There had been suggestions about Umar Akmal’s inclusion in the side as his replacement.

However, he was given another opportunity to prove his talent. Shafiq made the full use of the chance, and scored 101 runs in a low scoring second Test.

The highlight of his superb performance was a classy 88-run-stand with Azah Ali. His partnership guided Pakistan to a handy total in the second innings.

Talking about his lacklustre show in the first game, Shafiq admitted that he made a few mistakes, which he would correct quickly.

"Mistakes are bound to happen," he said. "I tried my best to bat for longer but, once in a while, such a rush of blood will happen. I will learn from such mistakes,” said Shafiq.

"In the second innings, I was out to a good ball from Monty Panesar. It was not a rash shot; it was a good ball. But I don’t feel any pressure. I play for Pakistan, not myself. So whichever position my team needs me in, I will bat there and I will play for
Pakistan and give my best," shared the Karachi-born batsman.

He has played in 12 Test matches so far, scoring 587 runs including a century. He also has four fifties to his credit; however, the pundits feel that Shafiq is yet to do justice to his talent.

The right-hander, on the other hand, is determined to show better performances in the coming days.

“I learned a lot from my century against Bangladesh. I am learning day by day. I model my batting on Mohammad Yousuf. He is my idol. I have watched most of his innings and, when he scored a lot of runs in one year, 2006, he became my favourite batsman,"
he described.
