Balan, who also bagged a National Award for her magnificent performance in ‘The Dirty Picture’, has certainly impressed many out there including the Indian film director and screenwriter, Anurag Kashyap.
Milan Luthria’s ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released on December 2, 2011, was a female-centric film and since Bollywood is a male oriented industry, the critics believed the film will not earn much at the Box Office. However, Balan shocked everyone with her outrageous performance and she has proved herself again in yet another female-centric film.
Thus the award winning filmmaker, Kashyap, reckons Balan is a true successor of Aamir Khan, as he thinks her choice of scripts is pretty amazing.
Kashyap reportedly said, "Vidya is a true successor of superstar Aamir Khan when it comes to choice of scripts.”
"Vidya is slowly emerging to be a true successor of Aamir (Khan)... a great career is defined by choices one makes and courage to see it through," he added.
‘Kahaani’, which featured Parambrata Chatterjee opposite to Vidya, has a simple storyline, in which Balan has played a pregnant woman’s role who comes to Kolkata in search of her missing husband, who many believe doesn’t actually exist and Kashyap commended Ghosh’s effort.
“’Kahaani' is how a thriller should be shot...the ending is debatable but what an effort," the 39-year-old tweeted.
‘Kahaani’ didn’t impress many on the opening day, as it only collected Rs. 80 lakh on the day. Nevertheless, the film picked up the pace on the following Saturday and Sunday and by the end of the weekend it gathered around Rs. 4.25 crore, which trade pundits consider an impressive number, especially for a movie with such a low opening day. Keeping these facts in front, the film was eventually declared as a hit.
Vidya Balan will now be seen in ‘Ghanchakkar’, which will be released next year but the actress will make a special appearance in the upcoming film ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’.
