Bollywood hoping to have a super summer ahead

Bollywood is hoping to have a super summer ahead because this season the industry is not scared of the IPL googly and it has lined up a string of releases during the busy cricket season. As per the reports, almost thirty big and small budget films of worth Rs. 400 crore will be released between April and June.

Indian Premium League (IPL), which is to be held from April 4-May 27, has dominated the Indian film industry for the past four seasons but since the Indian team has not been able to perform well at all after winning the World Cup, experts in the industry believe that not many will flock to the cinemas to watch cricket this time.

The string of releases include some of the big babies such as Sajid Khan’s ‘Housefull 2’, Kunal Kohli’s ‘Teri Meri Kahani’, Priyadarshan’s ‘Tezz’, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Ferrarri Ki Sawaari’, Kunal Deshmukh’s ‘Jannat 2’, Vikram Bhatt’s ‘Dangerous Ishq’, Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Department’, Dibakar Banerjee’s ‘Shanghai’ and Prabhu Deva’s ‘Rowdy Rathore’.

All of the above mentioned films are highly-anticipated. The trade pundits of the Bollywood industry have shared their thoughts with the media.

“It’s a very promising line-up, with Rs 400 crore at stake. Bollywood is expected to do great business this quarter,” said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Trade expert Atul Mohan said, “This is a trend that’s come up recently — this quarter of the year is seeing a lot at stake as loads of good films release after the exams are over.”

Trade analyst Komal Nahta stated, “The competition is healthy as there are films of all kinds.”

“There is lot of variety, which makes the season ahead exciting,” said critic-writer Anupama Chopra.

Thus far, Bollywood industry has earned well through the movies like ‘Agneepath’, ‘Kahaani’ and ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ in the first quarter (Jan-March). Nevertheless, the overall business has not been exceptional.

Well, all said and done, let’s see who wins this time, IPL or Bollywood.
