Family scams: Another son of Prime Minister Gilani is in trouble

Although there is nothing proved against Ali Musa Gilani, the son of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, thus far, we have heard so far are no more than allegations in the eye of the law.

However, I am convinced that these allegations are of an extremely destructive nature. Some of the conditions surrounding the episode thickened the plot. It seems that efforts were made to skate over the scam.

Secretary Narcotics Control Division was transferred after the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) started an investigation into the chemical quota case. In the next phase, Director General ANF was also changed two months after the probe began into the scam.

A couple of officers were also shifted to other departments associated with the probe panel. Perceptions count as much as realities when political figures are involved in the case even though the government was claiming them regular transfers.

The newly appointed officials moved the Supreme Court seeking permission to withdraw the cases once the previous officers were out of the ANF.

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has number of plus points to his pocket but his family is facing tough phase in the present regime.

Besides playing a key role in developing parliamentary consensus on the three historic constitutional amendments, he introduced the NFC (National Finance Commission) award.

Although belatedly, he was the man who first ordered to release the deposed judges by former president Pervez Musharraf and subsequently reinstated them on their offices.

The Multan-based politician is also famous for his pacifying attitude and poise, qualities which are rare among political figures.

However, the other side of the picture is not quite bright. He has many highly damaging financial cases involving government personalities and their close relatives occurred in the previous four years.

As elections are coming close day by day, the opposition will try to expose and get rid of the corrupt leadership at the earliest.

Ali Musa Gilani allegedly flouted the rules in the allocation of Ephedrine quota by companies that are said to be his favourites.

The apex court has rehabilitated the old investigative team directing it to probe the case without bearing any influence.

Now, there is a need on the part of Ali Musa Gilani to cooperate fully with the investigators to clear his and his family name.
