Bugtis, Marris and Mengals are funded by foreign forces – Pervez Musharraf

Former President of Pakistan, General (r) Pervez Musharraf is optimistic that no foreign force can disintegrate the country and alleged that some of the high-profile leaders of Baluchistan are being funded by other countries to run the separatist movement
in the province.

In February, 2012, an American senator tabled a resolution in  the senate about the independence of Baluchistan. Some of the major Baloch tribes like Bugti, Marri and Mengal have supported this resolution. They claim that the federation of Pakistan has not
been sincere with Baluchistan since last 64 years and being the smallest province in terms of population, Baluchistan has been completely ignored in all the fields of life, including education, health and infrastructure.

However, the former President of the country does not agree with this and expressed that a lot of development was done in the province during his decade-long rule. He feels that the leaders of the three major tribes have their own vested interests. Former
military dictator slammed the present coalition government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and held it responsible for the current pathetic situation of Baluchistan.

“The chiefs of Bugti, Marri and Mengal (tribes) are involved in the prevailing condition of Balochistan. The Balochistan Liberation Army is a terrorist organisation which is targeting non-locals in the province. The present government has failed to tackle
the province’s issues,” said Musharraf.

Musharraf claimed that the likes of Shahzain Bugti, Talal Bugti and others are being funded by foreign forces but the former President is confident about the defense of the country.

He believes, “Shahzain Bugti, Talal Bugti and others have contacts with foreign elements. Not a single inch of the country would disintegrate in the presence of Pakistan Army,”

While talking about the ground realities of the province, Musharraf expressed that the situation is not as bad as it is being portrayed in the media.

“The people do not know the real situation of Balochistan. Only four per cent of population of the country lives in Balochistan and 60 per cent of that population is in favour of Pakistan. Just three to four thousand people are involved in terrorism and
those are supported by foreign elements,” he added.
