Balochistan cannot separated from Pakistan in army’s presence; says Pervez Musharraf

Former president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf has said that separatists in Balochistan with foreign support would not be succeeded in their nefarious objectives, saying the province cannot be disunited from Pakistan as long as army is there.

He asserted, “Not a single inch of the country would disintegrate in the presence of Pakistan Army”.

The former president while speaking to Pakistan First, an organization of retired military officers said that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) was a militant outfit funded by foreign hands.

Regretting that some political figures were seconding the separatists for short-term gains, he said only three out of total 160 tribes include Mengal, Marri and Bugti wanted separation from the federation.

They are funded by external elements to destabilize the country, he added.

He elaborated, “The people do not know the real situation of Balochistan. Only four per cent of population of the country lives in Balochistan and 60 per cent of that population is in favour of Pakistan. Just three to four thousand people are involved in terrorism and those are supported by foreign elements”.

The president said the chieftains of Bugti, Marri and Mengal were involved in the prevailing condition of Balochistan. The Balochistan Liberation Army was a terrorist organisation which is targeting non-locals in the province but the present government has failed to tackle the situation, he added.

Claiming that Shahzen Bugti and Talal Bugti and other key leaders were in contact with the foreign miscreants, he expressed retreatment that the people of Pakistan were not fully aware of the situation in Balochistan. He, however, said the people were perturbed over the prevailing situation.

Due to failure of the incumbent, the situation had worsened in the province, he continued saying four universities and three cadet colleges had been opened in Balochistan during his tenure. He said all masters-degree-holders were given Rs 10,000 scholarships and jobs in the area.

He said billions of rupees were spent during his tenure on developmental projects in Balochistan, adding that situation was much better as compared to the present scenario.

Later, members of the Pakistan First forum, which has over 200 members affiliated with the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society, urged the government to implement the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package and the National Finance Commission Award.
