Shabnam: the true Lollywood Diva, the Pakistani ‘Dream Girl’

I belong to the select group of individuals who enjoyed watching PTV when I was growing up. It was the only source of entertainment, and there was no measure of my job when STN/NTM came along.
Watching movies was not as common as it is now and I can solemnly declare that I have seen anything that was aired during those days.
It was during that time that I saw Shabnam for the first time. Reema was still a youngling when the diva donned the silver screen and what an icon she was. If I have to admit about who my first crush was, her name will be on my lips.
Therefore, when I saw the headlines that the Bengali diva was back in Pakistan there was no end to my excitement. I was with my parents at that time and everyone was as happy as I was. The ‘Dream Girl’ of a generation of Pakistanis was back in the homeland
of dreams, howbeit the situation is not as rosy as it was when she left.
It has been 14 years since her last visit to Pakistan and there was a warm reception from the media circles. All the movie business luminaries were present there and some of the local folk in the guise of workers were there as well. Everyone shared the same
feelings as the return of the iconic showstopper brought everyone to another level.
As enigmatic and charismatic as ever, she still maintains her elegance that encapsulated the hearts of the audiences. Some people have that place in your heart that you always remember them with affection and Shabnam is one of them.
Such is the power of her persona that all my childhood memories are rushing through my mind right now, and my words are mingling up like a ‘sine wave’ (have to reveal the geek inside me).
Anyways, I hope she has the best of times in Pakistan and is awarded with the accolades she deserves.
