Speaker NA seeks Gilani’s response in contempt case

Islamabad: (Tuesday, May 22, 2012) National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza has directed the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to submit his reply regarding his conviction in the contempt of court case today.

According to the sources, Dr Fehmida is to announce her decision regarding Gilani’s disqualification sometime this week.

It has been learnt through sources that Gilani will submit his official written reply to the NA speaker by tomorrow.

Under the constitution, the speaker is required to send a reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) within 30 days if she thinks the prime minister stands disqualified in light of the apex court’s verdict in the contempt
of court case.

Earlier, while talking to an English newspaper, Dr Mirza had said that it was not clear when the period of 30 days would end.
