Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani pointed out external elements working in Balochistan, saying that these forces have set their eyes on the precious natural resources of the province.

The premier, who is currently visiting the province, termed the people of Balochistan as patriotic citizens of the country.

He observed, “Balochistan is close to my heart. The government will work for the welfare of its people”.

In order to remove their deep scars of alienation and eliminate a cauldron of ethnic and sectarian tensions, the government is making desperate efforts to win over the people of Balochistan.

The alienation is rooted in decades of deprivation among the local Baloch people. However, the authorities concerned believe that some external elements were also exploiting the situation to weaken the Pakistan.

The latest statement from the premier came a day after the head of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) said that external forces were stoking and fuelling the Baloch insurgency.

Gilani said that he had directed the provincial chief secretary to identify 35,000 Baloch graduates who will be hired in government departments, an effort to address the sense of deprivation among the local people.

He noted, “Fifteen hundred jobs in the Levies Forces have already been provided to the people of Balochistan”.

The prime minister was of the opinion that the federal government would also hire another 10,000 youngsters in different departments and out of them 5,000 would be sent on foreign trainings after acquisition of required skills in their respective fields.

Under the banner of the 7th National Finance Commission Award, Balochistan’s share has gone up to Rs120 billion as compared to Rs40 billion in the past, he said adding that the incumbent has set aside Rs6 billion for providing scholarships to the students of the province.

In order to assist the poor families of Balochistan, Gilani promised to release the amount of Rs5 billion.

He pledged to expedite the development of the biggest province of the country, saying that Rs3.2 billion have been fixed for the completion of the road between Rato-Dero and Gwadar.

He noted, “This road would help make the Gwadar port operational and it will improve connectivity between the three provinces”.
