PM Gilani moved by loadshedding protests; convenes energy conference

Islamabad: (Monday, June 18, 2012) Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, taking notice of the ongoing protests against the persistent loadshedding across the country, has convened the energy conference on Tuesday.

PM, who is presently in Saudi Arabia to attend the funeral prayer of the Crown Prince Naif, issued the instructions to ministries of Water and Power and Petroleum to resolve the matter on immediate grounds.

PM Gilani is expected to come back by today (Monday) evening. He is expected to chair the energy conference tomorrow.

Perturbed by the lingering electricity loadshedding in such hot weather, many cities of the Punjab, a province most affected by the shortage of power, observed protests erupting all over the province. The people who took onto the
streets while protesting also tried to damage the public and private assets and tried to attack the PPP legislators’ houses in their vicinities.

In this regards, the police too could not play its due role as they let the protestors ransack the public and private property.
