South Waziristan Operation was a compulsion: COAS Kayani

Wana: (Monday, June 18, 2012) Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said today that it was the army’s compulsion to conduct the military operation against the militants in South Waziristan.

Kayani, who visited the place today, said that no army would ever want to fight within its own borders. He said, “The army is concentrating on health and education facilities (for the people of the area).”

According to the news details, General Kayani inaugurated the Cadet College in South Waziristan following which he met with the tribal elders and discussed development and public welfare projects going on in the area.

While talking to the tribal elders, he assured them of the army’s complete support.

Addressing a news briefing, General Kayani said that with the help of the army, 124 welfare projects had been set up in FATA and Malakand.
