Islamabad: (Wednesday, July 11, 2012) As the government presents the Contempt of Court Bill 2012 in the upper senate, it expects it to be passed as soon as possible. However, the opposition is also putting up its best efforts to
stop the ruling alliance from doing that.

Speaking against the bill on the floor of the senate, PML N senator Ishaq Dar said that his party strongly opposed the bill calling it a ‘slap on our faces.”

Dar was of the view that even if the bill gets approved from the Senate, the PML N would try to ensure that it does not remain a part of the constitution.

While airing his comments over the development, vice president of the National Party Hasil Bizenjo said that the contempt bill should be sent to the standing committee for debate.

It is worth mentioning over here that the National Assembly has already approved the Contempt of Court Bill 2012. The bill excuses the public office holders from contempt proceedings.

Once approved by the Senate, the bill will require a formal presidential assent to become law, which will repeal the existing contempt law.
