Joe Bonk and Katie Evans win swimming events – YMCA National Championship

Joe Bon and Katie Evans won gold medals of the Men’s 100m butterfly and Women’s 200m breaststroke respectively at the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship.

Bonk’s remained considerably faster from his fellow competitors and made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal by clocking a wonderful time of 55.62 seconds.

The gold medallist was chased by Andrew Yunker, who stayed nearly half body length apart and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for second position by posting a nice time of 56.28 seconds.

Third position of the discipline was secured by Leo Lim, who was only 0.01 seconds slower from overpowering the silver medallist and tapped the wall with a fantastic timing of 56.29 seconds.

Similarly, Lim was followed by Joseph Shepley, who 0.02 seconds away from securing bronze medal of the discipline and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 56.31 seconds.

The 16-year-old Shepley was chased by Justin Mehl, who proved his audacity for fifth fastest spot of the event and hit the wall with an effort of 56.54 seconds.

Following that, the audience witnessed stupendous efforts of Evans in the breaststroke discipline. With her relentless efforts, Evans remained in a lead of half body length over her following swimmer and secured the crown of the discipline by producing a
time of 2 minutes and 36.41 seconds.

The champion remained 0.51 seconds ahead of Sava Faulconer, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 36.92 seconds.

The silver medallist was followed by Olivia Ontjes, who stayed 0.53 seconds apart and secured bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 37.45 seconds.

Ontjes was chased by her teammate, Katy Williams, who suffered a loss of two body lengths from her foregoing finisher and ended fourth in the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 39.52 seconds.

In addition, the position holders received awards and accolades for their stupendous efforts after the session.
