The eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and the Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez are set to collide for the fourth time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and it looks as if this time there will be a lot of action for the audiences.
The Filipino boxing icon, who is also known as Pac-Man, is the overall winner in his previous three fights against Marquez but a considerable amount of people believe the win should have been awarded to Marquez. Perhaps this is reason why Pacquiao doesn’t want a close win over his archrival now.
“My focus this time is to go for the knockout,” Pacquiao said Wednesday (via Jackson Sun).
Marquez’s ability to counterpunch is considered as the biggest problem for the Filipino by many critics including Freddie Roach, who trains Pacquiao.
Nevertheless, Pacquiao doesn’t agree with the fact. The 33-year-old pugilist, who is considered as the best pound-for-pound fighter after Floyd Mayweather junior, stated he avoids counterpunching because it makes a fight boring.
“I am a good counter-puncher, too. But that makes for a boring fight. I want to make the fight exciting. I don’t want the fans to be bored.”
Pacquiao insisted he wants to erase all doubts this time.
“I need to be more aggressive in this fight,” Pacquiao said. “I want a win that isn’t close like the last three. It has to be a decisive victory.”
“I want to erase the last fight and any doubts in No. 4. I will focus this time. I have to study and train using new techniques and strategy, and apply techniques never used in my previous fights.
“I will fight and train like the old Manny, the 25-year-old Manny.”
Well, all said and done, these statements are not new from Manny Pacquiao but let’s see if he can really live up to his words this time by defeating Marquez in an impressive way.
